VIRTUAL BIG BAND – Tarpon Springs Jazz Ensemble – Jump for Joy

Tarpon Springs Jazz Ensemble Presents Jump For Joy by Duke Ellington
Directed by Christopher De León
Mixed and edited by Senior Student, Sammy Hanson
This project wasn’t about performing perfectly. It was about coming together and creating music again as a musical family and giving our students something to strive for. Each student performed and recorded themselves on their phones or computers. The audio and video was mixed and edited by one our senior students, Sammy Hanson with guidance from our director, Mr. De León. Recording in this manner presents all sorts of challenges. But it was all worth it to be together again even if just through a video screen.
In these very difficult times, the students of the TSJE would like to bring some JOY to your life by courtesy of the master, Duke Ellington. April and May were scheduled to be two very special months for us as we were selected to perform for the 7th time at Savannah Music Festival’s “Swing Central Jazz Competition” and, for the second year in a row, the Essentially Ellington Jazz Band Competition and Festival at Jazz at Lincoln Center, New York City. Like so many all across the world, we now find ourselves in this current situation. We sincerely hope that this video brightens up your day. Once this is all over and we honor all those we have been lost and those who have courageously helped others in need, let us rejoice in our newly appreciated togetherness and JUMP FOR JOY!
