In January 2008, the The Leadership Conservatory for the Arts at
Tarpon Springs High School became the District's 11th countywide
magnet program. The conservatory is a world-class learning center
of excellence creating a discovery zone for developing musicians,
dancers and artists. This program integrates leadership skills,
performing arts, rigorous academics and technology into a seamless
curriculum that prepares todays students for the shift to
tomorrows challenges. Students without extensive formal training
who want to develop their talent and have the desire to be leaders
need to apply.
The student application period for countywide
magnet programs for the 2012 - 2013 school year was January 7 -
20, 2012. If you missed the enrollment period, contact Assistant
Principal Wayne McKnight (contact information below) regarding the
possibility of late enrollment.
Enrollment is open to incoming 9th graders from throughout Pinellas
County who may select one of two tracks:
- Leadership Through Instrumental Music
- Leadership Through Vocal Music
Note regarding Discipline Entrance
Requirements
Proof of Good Standing
A student who has been suspended, expelled, or has excessive
referrals for any reason from any public or private school in Florida
or any other state will not be admitted into the Leadership Conservatory
for the Arts Magnet program. Potential candidates transcripts must
verify that they are "in good standing" and have displayed
the ability to be self-directed, respectful, and have demonstrated
an ability to succeed. Excessive pre-existing discipline problems
will result in the denial of enrollment of the potential magnet
candidate.
The parent or guardian of students transferring
from an out-of-state public school or any private school must certify
in writing that the student is not currently serving a suspension
or expulsion imposed by the school or school district from which
the student is transferring. Failure to certify in writing that
a student transferring from an out-of state public school is not
currently serving a suspension or expulsion will result in the denial
of enrollment of the transferring student. Failure to certify in
writing that a student transferring from a private school is not
currently serving a suspension or expulsion will result in referral
to the Chief Education Officer or designee to review the student's
suspension or expulsion status.
Every magnet student application will be reviewed
by the Tarpon Springs High School Administration to ensure equal
opportunity and that every student meets the required entrance standards
and expectations prior to a student being accepted into the magnet
program.
